Helper requirements

Helpers, also call pre-apprentices, are always in demand. These individuals perform manual labor jobs, which can include delivering parts to jobsites, digging ditches, driving forklifts, sorting tools and general cleanup. Once accepted as a helper, you can expect a 40-hour workweek with a UA Local 525 signatory contractor making $18.24 per hour, plus benefits.

In addition to be a motivated self-starter, helpers must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a Social Security card
  • Must have OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 card for construction
  • Pay $10 monthly registration fee to stay on out-of-work list
  • Pass a drug test

To complete the $1.97 billion project, nearly 1,100 local apprentices were utilized in the completion of this $1.97 billion project, giving them valuable on-the-job learning opportunities.
